As of April 1, 2009, there is no cost for a vasectomy for those insured by Manitoba Health.

How many appointments are required to have a vasectomy?
Patients from the Winnipeg area require two appointments. The first is the office consultation followed by a separate appointment for surgery.

Patients from outside of Winnipeg can usually arrange to have their consultation and surgery done on the same day. We offer this service if patients live more than 30 minutes outside of Winnipeg, are least 30 years of age, or have at least 2 children of their own. Otherwise, a consultation, or letter of referral from a family physician may be required.

Do I need a referral from a Family Doctor?
No. You can make your own appointment for a vasectomy. A referral from a family doctor is sometimes required when a patient is considered too young to have a vasectomy.
